Snow seen falling in parts of Hampton Roads

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) -- So much for waiting on the weekend. Snow has been seen falling in parts of the viewing area -- and some of it is sticking!

WAVY viewers reported heavy snow flakes were falling in areas including Smithfield and Suffolk late in the morning on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2018.

In some cases, the flakes were seen sticking to the ground in images and videos.

WAVY's team of Super Doppler 10 Meteorologists said there were reports of snowflakes mixing with rain in Portsmouth, Suffolk, Hampton, and Newport News.

Producer Meagan Williams reported seeing snow in downtown Norfolk just after 12 p.m.

It is possible the Hampton Roads area could see some more wintry weather this weekend. While Meteorologist Jeremy Wheeler said in his Wednesday weather blog that a system forecast to arrive into this area by the weekend is largely expected to bring rain, that rainfall could change over into mix of rain, sleet and/or snow for a time.

Stay with the Super Doppler 10 weather team for updates.
