Severe thunderstorm warnings, watches issued across the area

UPDATE: A severe weather watch is now effect through 9 p.m. for the Southside and northeast North Carolina. Damaging wind and hail are expected.

Most of our area has been included in the Slight Risk for severe weather this evening.  That’s level 2 out of 5.  There will be a chance for storms to produce damaging wind and maybe hail the size of a quarter or larger.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch goes until 9PM. The risk for tornadoes is very low, but it’s not out of the question.  So, have multiple ways of getting severe weather alerts…whether it’s through our free WAVY Weather APP, a NOAA Weather Radio, the TV on WAVY 10 or FOX 43, etc.

The strongest storms will move across our area between 5PM and 10PM…with the peak between 7pm and 9pm.  Watch WAVY NEWS 10 all evening for the latest updates on the potential for severe weather.
