It’s going to be a hot day with highs hovering in the low-mid 90s. The record for today in Norfolk is 92° set back 1881. So, we’ll see if a record is tied or broken today.
It’s so hot due to a SW wind ushering in very warm air from the South. Our area is south of a stalled frontal boundary today, but the front will begin to move south as a cold front & cross our area tomorrow.
The timing of the front crossing is looking to be around Midday. So, based on the current thinking, temps should get to around 80° near Norfolk, Mid 80s closer to I-95, and 70s for areas north of the Southside.
If the front slows down, it’ll be warmer….cooler if it speeds up. Regardless, plan on a temperature swing from Mother’s Day late morning to Mother’s Day late afternoon as temps fall into the low 70s or upper 60s by 6PM.
Make sure mom has a jacket handy if you all plan to be out all day.
There will also be some showers possible for Mother’s Day…mainly in the afternoon & evening (but isolated showers are also possible before sunrise mainly north of the Southside).
Today, only spotty afternoon showers could pop up during the heat of the afternoon. Meteorologist Ashley Baylor will have the latest on your Mother’s Day forecast tonight on FOX43 at 10PM and on WAVY NEWS 10 at 11PM.
