RALEIGH, N.C. (WAVY) — Gov. Roy Cooper has declared a state of emergency for North Carolina ahead of Hurricane Michael.

The dangerous Category 4 storm is expected to make landfall around the Florida Panhandle Wednesday. Michael is then expected to bring tropical-storm-force winds and between 2 to 5 inches of rain in some parts of North Carolina.

Along with the emergency declaration, a restriction on on trucks and heavy vehicles has been waved in order to help state officials prepare. A total of 150 National Guard troops are expected to report for duty.
