AAA says its expects prices at the pump to spike as the storm approaches the East Coast.

Experts say a storm typically causes a rise in demand, so the market responds with higher prices. They should return to normal after the storm.

Some gas pumps -- like some at a 7-Eleven on General Booth  Boulevard in Virginia Beach -- were out of service or gas. Prices were at an average of    $2.61 per gallon at the start of the week, according to AAA.

Florence is expected to make landfall later this week along the North Carolina coast as a major hurricane.
