Today is looking pretty good. It will be a typical Summer-time day. Enjoy it while you can because wet weather will move in for the weekend. It won’t be a washout, but rain is a good bet for both days. Let’s talk about it.
Today we do have high pressure off to our southeast. It has been drifting south a little bit, and it will drift even more south today. Meanwhile one cool front is stalling out near the region. A second front was moving towards us in the Midwest.
There won’t be much rain today despite the surface fronts creeping closer to the area. I think part of that is some drier weather in the mid levels. However, the jetstream is also to our north today. It’s oriented so that it won’t promote thunderstorm formation. As we go into tomorrow all of that changes. The fronts will both sit on top of Hampton Roads. Also, the jetstream will dip farther south.
This will be about the third time in about a month that an upper level low has formed and will have an influence on our weather. The result….We’ll have scattered to occasional to occasional showers both Saturday and Sunday.
There will be some thunderstorms at times as well. One benefit will be that the temperatures will come down a little. Highs will be in the mid 80s with some upper 80s. It won’t be a washout which means an continuous rain the entire day. Instead we’ll get several rounds of showers with breaks in-between. The sun will pop out at times. If it comes out longer, then some areas could get close to 90 degrees. Either way it will be humid. There could be some heavy downpours. This pattern will continue into Monday. Though the upper level low should weaken a bit by then. That system should kick out by Tuesday. Thus lowering the rain chances. In fact by the middle of next week it’s possible that we’ll have NO rain in the region. Could we possibly be dry for a couple of days with sunshine??? We’ll see. We’ll heat up again later next week as well. Stay tuned for updates.
Things are quiet again in the tropics. Debby fell apart yesterday. Let’s hope it stays quiet for a while. Things tend to pick up by late August into early September. Enjoy the Silence till then.
