Searing…..exactly. We’ll be feeling like a bunch of seared tuna steaks in this heat today! No heat advisories in effect today, but the mercury will surge into the mid-90s, which will put the heat index between 100° to 106°.
Not a bad day to cool off at the beach! If you’re heading to the Oceanfront or the Outer Banks, there will be a low risk of rip currents with water temperatures in the mid to upper-70s. Grab your big beach umbrella and have a blast!
We’ll escape mostly dry today, but there will be a chance of an isolated shower later this evening. As a cold front approaches the region, expect a better chance of some widely scattered showers overnight. Hopefully, Mother Nature doesn’t wake you up before your alarm.
That front will stall out overhead, so we’ll have a chance of some pop-up showers/storms Friday afternoon/evening. Shower threat aside, it’ll be a touch cooler tomorrow with highs in the upper-80s. It won’t feel like much relief because the humidity will remain high.
Spoiler alert: dewpoints will stay in the 70s for at least the next 7 days, soooo not much relief on the way even with a slight drop in temps.
Looking ahead to the holiday weekend – a few spotty showers are possible on Saturday, but we’ll be dry Sunday and Monday with highs in the upper-80s. As EVERYONE heads back to work and school next Tuesday, the mercury will be near 90° with lots of sunshine.
A quick check of the tropics:
There is a tropical wave coming off the coast of Africa. It could strengthen into a tropical depression sometime this weekend. We’ll definitely be watching this system over the next several days as it is forecasted to move into the Atlantic.
