The big weather system from the weekend has moved far out to sea. We only have a few lingering effects here. However, another system will impact us over the next few days. Currently, high pressure is building in overhead.
We still have some lingering tides and breezes near the shore, but conditions will improve today. We’ll have winds out of the north/northwest at 10-15mph. There will be some gusts to 25mph near the shore. We’ll have lots of sunshine today, but temps will only rise to the upper 40s to low 50s as cooler air keeps filtering in. By the late afternoon into the evening. The wind will die down even more. They will only be at about 8-12mph out of the north/northwest.
So it should be pretty nice out late this afternoon into the evening. Just a little chilly. By tonight the wind will finally settle. It will only be northwest at 5-10mph. We’ll also have clear skies. This will allow temps to drop quite a bit. Lows will drop to the low 30s in Hampton Roads. It may drop to near 30 inland/west. That will depend on how fast some clouds will move in there. Bring in your potted plants, and you may want to cover up some of the blooming plants in the yard. We’ll have increasing clouds tomorrow through the morning. By the afternoon we’ll have lots of clouds and some isolated showers. The rain will pick up into the evening as the area of low pressure gets closer.
The rain will become pretty widespread by the evening commute. Luckily the winds won’t increase with this next system. They should be fairly light until Wednesday. Then they will pick up a little as the system moves out to sea, but nothing like last weekend. While this next system will be fairly weak in our region, it will become a fast moving nor’easter for the northeast states. That is bad news as they are having a major cleanup from the last system.
We’ll have quiet/cool weather for Thursday through Saturday. Highs will be mainly in the 50s. Then we’ll have another system move through on Sunday. That one may have some more wind with it. I’m not sure if it will get up to last weekend’s levels, but it will definitely be windy again. We’ll have updates on it through the week.
In terms of tidal flooding. We’ll have some minor tidal flooding this morning between about 10am and 1pm. Then the water levels will go down this evening.
I have a feeling we’ll be talking about the tides quite a bit for the rest of the month. We’ll see.
