Reck on the Road: 20 Years of the Norfolk Mermaids

Video

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) – Drive just about anywhere in the city of Norfolk and chances are you will find a mermaid all decorated and pointing the way.

The mermaids have become so popular that Norfolk is now known as the mermaid city.

This year, the Norfolk Mermaid is turning 20 and still going strong. The sculptures were first introduced by Norfolk attorney Peter Decker and his wife Bess.

Today we celebrate 20 years of the Norfolk Mermaid as we catch up with artist Georgia Mason and Phillip Decker in this week’s Reck on the Road.
