The Virginia Department of Transportation’s traffic cameras showed drivers stopped just before the tunnel on the westbound side of Interstate 64.
WAVY’s Katie Collett reports drivers were being turned around at 4th View Street in Norfolk because of the stoppage. One viewer reported he had be stuck on the bridge-tunnel for more than 45 minutes.
VDOT said in a tweet sent just after 11 a.m. that the scene had been cleared.
This video taken by Adam Pyecha shows the vehicle on fire in the distance, and onlookers out of their cars inside the tunnel.
The circumstances of the fire were not immediately known. 10 On Your Side has reached out to Virginia State Police for information.
