Richmond Flying Squirrels pitcher struck by foul ball

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A Richmond Flying Squirrels pitcher was struck by a foul ball while in the dugout on Thursday night.

Chase Johnson, a right-handed pitcher for the team, was hit by a foul ball during the seventh inning of Thursday's game against the Portland Sea Dogs.

The ball reportedly hit Johnson directly in the face, according to a spectator at the game. The spectator told 8News that Johnson had a neck brace put on and blood was visible.

Johnson gave a thumbs up as he was being taken away on a stretcher.

Johnson, a rising prospect for the San Francisco Giants, returned to the team in May after recovering from Tommy John surgery.
