EUGENE, OREGON (WAVY) — Chesapeake native and Olympic gold medalist Michael Cherry was a favorite to advance to the men’s 400M final at the World Championships on Wednesday night, but failed to do so.

He ran a 45.28, finished fourth in his heat and failed to advance on time.

Cherry had a record setting 2021 season when he won the Diamond League Championship in Brussels while setting a personal best. He also won gold in Tokyo with the men’s 4×400 relay team.
