This interactive map displays all of the homicides that have happened in Newport News, Norfolk and Virginia Beach since 2013. It was created using data provided by their police departments and WAVY TV-10's archival system.
We chose to investigate homicides in these three cities based on population size and crime rate. This is an ongoing project and we plan to add data from other Hampton Roads cities.
The map is organized by solved and unsolved cases. A red pin indicates that a case is unsolved, and a green pin indicates that a case is solved. Generally police define a solved case as one where an arrest is made, however there are exceptions.
Click on the pin to find information on the victim and the crime, including the date and location of the homicide, and the name and age of the person killed.
