Operation School Supplies

For nearly three decades 10 On Your Side Operation School Supplies has collected all the tools kids need to get back to school. It has become a tradition in Hampton Roads helping fill the supply closets for schools in 12 districts in Southeastern Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina.

1st Advantage Credit Union, Hampton Roads Honda and FSI return as collection sponsors this year to help generate supplies at their locations. NEW sponsors helping in the collection drive are select Walmart locations, Dillard’s at Lynnhaven Mall, Childcare Network, Hall Construction, Liberty Tire and area Navy Exchange stores.

Our goal is to fill a 26-foot Harrison’s Moving & Storage truck at each live collection event location. Last year, 10 On Your Side Operation School Supplies broke its own record collecting more than 80,000 items for school districts across our region.

The Hampton Roads Corporate VOLUNTEER Council (HRCVC) of VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads is a coalition of local businesses and corporations giving back in our backyard.  We are proud to partner with WAVY-TV 10 on the upcoming Operation School Supply drive with the Teacher’s Closet. In its third year, the HRCVC’s Teacher’s Closet brings together member Hampton Roads businesses to support teachers in need of additional instructional supplies.  Our goal is to minimize teachers’ out of pocket expenses and maximize our collective corporate capital to help equip students and provide teachers a little relief. 

Annually, teachers spend approximately $500 of their personal money on school supplies. With the assistance of Operation School Supply and supplies collected by our member companies, more than 600 teachers in Hampton Roads will benefit from these essential donations.  When students succeed, communities win – it feels good to do good in the neighborhood!
