FRANKLIN, Va. (WAVY) — A woman was arrested last Friday in Franklin after deputies say she struck a deputy with a child seat and kicked him in the leg.

The Southampton County Sheriff’s Office says the incident happened around 11:23 p.m. Friday night after deputies responded to a 911 hang up in the 31000 block of Camp Parkway.

Deputies found two people involved in a disturbance on arrival, and when deputies tried to diffuse the fight, Christa Byrum, 22, hit one of the deputies with the child seat. She then kicked him in the leg before being taken into custody.

The sheriff’s office says the deputy suffered a small laceration to the face, but no other injuries.

Byrum has been charged with felony assault on a law enforcement officer.
