ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. (WAVY) — A woman was killed in homicide Thursday evening in Elizabeth City, according to police.

Officials say they received a call to 817 North Road St at 7:35 p.m. for a door that was open. While on scene, officers found dead woman inside the home.

She was later identified as 30-year-old Ashley Dozier-Tyler, of Elizabeth City. The cause of death has not been determined, but police are investigating this incident as a homicide.

10 On Your Side talked to one man who lives down the road from where it happened.

He says he was walking home around 8:30 p.m. when he noticed the police presence.

“There were like five cops on the side of the building, one was making sure no one crossed the tape. They were all like shining flashlights underneath the house,” he explained.

Another neighbor who lives behind the home where Dozier-Tyler says she was found inside her home. As of Saturday evening, the caution tape was still up and an officer was on the property, standing guard.

Police encourage anyone who has any information to call the Elizabeth City Crime Line at 252-335-5555.
