HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A woman has life-threatening injuries after she was shot overnight, Hampton Police say.
Police said in a news release officers were dispatched to Terri Sue Court just before 12:45 a.m. Wednesday for a shooting. Responding officers found a woman suffering from a gunshot wound.
The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment, police said.
A neighbor told 10 On Your Side’s Kiahnna Patterson she heard one gunshot then a woman screaming, “Call the police”, before falling on the ground.
Hampton police had Terri Sue Court blocked off with crime scene tape overnight.
10 On Your Side spoke with two neighbors who were home at the time of the shooting.
One woman says right before the shooting she noticed something odd about two men walking near her street.
“They were wearing winter clothing with the hoods up,” she said.
Shortly after, another neighbor says he heard a noise and looked outside.
“I heard the pop and I looked out my window and I saw the two dudes run right past my house,” he said.
He says they called 911 when they realized a woman was hurt.
“I came downstairs, I let my dogs out and then I walked out here once I knew it was safe and we noticed the body in the street,” he said.
He says the woman was in the road next to a car.
Police were seen taking evidence from the car overnight.
Detectives were back out at the scene this morning looking around the sides and back of the town homes.
Detectives are working to investigate the motive and circumstances behind the shooting. Wednesday’s incident is one of several shootings that have happened on the Peninsula since Saturday, April 20.
