VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A woman charged in a 2017 road incident that left a man injured is facing six years in prison.

Jennifer Marie Costa was sentenced Monday to 12 years in prison, with half of that time suspended.

She and David Arthur Costa were charged following an incident on Interstate 264. Police said the two were leaving the Oceanfront when a vehicle cut them off.

Jennifer Costa told 10 On Your Side last April they signaled for that driver to pull over.

“My husband just wanted to know why he did what he did,” she said in an interview at Virginia Beach City Jail. “That’s where it escalated.”

Police accused David Costa of stabbing the driver, and said Jennifer hit him with their vehicle. David Costa was sentenced in February to 24 years in prison.
