NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A second arrest has been made in connection with an investigation into allegations that a Newport News police officer sexually assaulted a juvenile.

Newport News police said on Tuesday that 43-year-old Kristi Lynn Cline was arrested and charged with multiple sex crimes.

Police said Cline’s arrest is a result of the investigation into Officer Robert Jones, who was charged last week in connection to an alleged past sexual assault.

The department received a complaint about the alleged sexual assault last June. According to court documents, the victim told police she met Jones when her Mom hired a babysitter to watch her after school.  Jones is charged with two counts of rape, carnal knowledge, forcible sodomy, four counts of taking indecent liberties and criminal solicitation.

Cline is charged with carnal knowledge of child between the ages of 13 and 14, two counts of object sexual penetration of a child under the age of 13, three counts of indecent liberties of a child under the age of 15 and two counts of aggravated sexual battery of a child under the age of 13.

Jones has been placed on administrative leave without pay pending the results of an administrative investigation, police said.

Both Jones and Cline were released on $25,000 bonds on April 5. They are both due back in court May 17.
