WILMINGTON, N.C. (WAVY) — A woman from the cruise ship Carnival Pride was medevaced by the U.S. Coast Guard about 50 miles southeast of Cape Hatteras after a medical emergency on Monday.

Crewmembers on the Carnival Pride contacted the Coast Guard after the 40-year-old woman was having abdominal pains.

A helicopter crew launched from Air Station Elizabeth City to assist the crew members.

Upon arrival the aircrew lifted the patient, her spouse and a nurse onto the aircraft. They were then taken to Carteret Health Care in Morehead City.

“We would like to commend the ship’s crew for their quick communication,” said Ensign Magen Bloch, watchstander at Sector North Carolina. “Due to their actions, we were able to get this woman the care she needed.”
