VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A woman who was accused of running over a woman who was jogging in Virginia Beach last year has pleaded guilty.
Police charged 30-year-old Alexis Rummel with felony hit-and-run following the September 2018 incident, which happened on Carolina Avenue in the Shadowlawn neighborhood.
Karen Stout said she was running along that road when she blacked out after being hit by an SUV. The driver of SUV fled the scene, according to police.
Rummel was taken into police custody several days later, and received bond.
Stout told 10 On Your Side Rummel told police she left the scene on Carolina Avenue because she panicked. She said she was upset Rummel did not come forward for 13 days until she was actually questioned by police in early October.
“The fact she confessed after they caught her is a lot different than her confessing before,” Stout said.
In court this week, Rummel pleaded guilty to felony hit-and-run and had her bond status revoked. Rummel is scheduled to be sentenced on July 31.
