PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Students at a high school in Portsmouth were sent home early on Friday after officials say the school lost power.
A spokesperson with Portsmouth Public Schools said Woodrow Wilson High School would dismiss at 12:30 p.m. A message about the dismissal to parents and guardians was delayed because of the outage.
A Portsmouth police spokesperson said a tractor-trailer hit power lines Yorkshire and Delham roads. The lines landed on top of the truck.
The driver was injured, but police said he refused transport.
Dominion Energy’s outage map showed power was expected to be restored between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.
