What’s Happening: Battle of Hampton Roads, Treasures of the Earth and Shamrockin’ in Ghent


Battle of Hampton Roads: Friday – Sunday, March 9 – 11

For you history buffs, this weekend marks 156 years since the Civil War Battle when the Union ironclad USS Monitor fought the Confederate ironclad CSS Virginia. To commemorate the battle, The Mariners Museum in Newport News host a weekend full of festive events.

When: Friday: 7 p.m. – 9 p.m., Saturday – Sunday: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Where: Mariner’s Museum and Park

Cost: Museum admission starts at $8.95 ( Most activities are free with museum admission)- prices do vary for special activities

Treasures of the Earth: Friday – Sunday, March 9 – 11

There’s going to be classic, handcrafted and fashion jewelry made from an assortment of metals, crystals and minerals.

When: Friday, noon – 6 p.m., Saturday – Sunday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Where: Virginia Beach Convention CenterCost: $5 Admission, $1 off coupon available on their website

Shamrockin’ in Ghent: Friday, March 9

It’s a St. Patrick’s Day block party on Colley Avenue in Ghent put on by the Hope House Foundation. You can expect live music, fun activities for the kiddos and festive food and drinks from Belly Full Food Truck.

When: 6 p.m. – 10 p.m

Where: Colley Avenue

Cost: Free Admission
