NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Crews are working to reopen a street near Norfolk State University following a water main break Thursday morning.
Norfolk officials said in a tweet at 9:30 a.m. that the break closed all traffic on Corprew Avenue at Majestic Avenue. Drivers are being encouraged to use E. Virginia Beach Boulevard as an alternate route.
The tweet said Corprew Avenue was expected to re-open by noon but a WAVY crew on scene confirmed that while the water main break has been fixed, the road remain closed.
Harry Kenyon with the City of Norfolk said the break was caused by a combination of the pipes being old and the extreme heat.
