KITTY HAWK, N.C. (WAVY) – Two men are facing charges following a police chase through parts of North Carolina.
Chief Joel Johnson with the Kitty Hawk Police Department said officers responded to a felony larceny call at the Walmart in Kitty Hawk around 10:40 a.m. Monday. Officers spotted the suspect vehicle and tried to stop it on US-158 but the vehicle fled. This prompted a police chase into Currituck County.
The chase involved the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office and North Carolina Highway Patrol and reached a high rate of speed, according to Chief Johnson.
The Sheriff’s Office and NC Highway Patrol deployed stop sticks in the Coinjock area.
The vehicle crashed in Coinjock, into a bean field. A Kitty Hawk police vehicle was involved in the crash but there were no injuries reported.
The subjects ran from the car into a wooded area where they were apprehended almost immediately.
Calvin Bernard Alston, of Edenton, N.C., was reportedly driving the suspect vehicle. He is charged with felony speed to elude, careless and reckless driving, driving while license was revoked, damage of property and felony larceny. He is also facing charges for three outstanding warrants.
His passenger, Luis Lorenzo Cruz, also of Edenton, is charged with felony larceny and resisting officers.
