Newport News man killed in Chesterfield County homicide

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Chesterfield County Police have identified a suspect in a deadly shooting that occurred just before sunrise on Mother’s Day Sunday. 

Police responded to the 7400 block of Midlothian Turnpike, in the Chippenham Square Shopping Center, following a report of a man shot.  

Chesterfield Police say upon arrival they discovered a man, identified as 27-year-old Dwayne Reid, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Reid, of the 500 block of Coral Key Place in Newport News, was taken to a nearby hospital where he died as a result of his injuries. 

On Sunday, detectives obtained warrants for 29-year-old Darren Damion Douglas for second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Douglas, of the 2700 block of Third Avenue, is described as 5-feet-5-inches tall and 169 pounds. He has black dreadlocks with red tips and brown eyes.
