Man fighting for his life after being struck by train in Virginia town

ORANGE, Va. (WRIC) -- A man is fighting for his life in the hospital after being struck by a train in the Town of Orange on Thursday. 

The incident occurred at approximately 6:10 p.m. near the intersection of May Fray Avenue and Barbour Street. 

According to Virginia State Police, a Norfolk Southern train was traveling south when it struck a male pedestrian who was crossing the tracks to the east. 

The man, who has been identified as a 63-year-old Ronald E. Snead, of Orange, was flown to a hospital in Charlottesville with injuries that were described as life-threatening. 

The Norfolk Southern train remained on scene to assist Virginia State Police in its investigation, which remains ongoing, a spokesperson said on Friday.

VSP was assisted by the Orange Police Department and Orange County Fire and Rescue Department.
