Virginia Wesleyan wins consecutive DIII national softball title

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Virginia Wesleyan softball team, the top ranked Division III program in the nation, defeated Illinois Wesleyan 3-1 on Tuesday to claim its second consecutive national championship.

With the win, the Marlins finish their season with a record of 55-3, setting a Division III record for wins in a season. The mark was previously 54, set by the Marlins last season.

Madison Glaubke gave the Marlins the lead for good in the first inning when the sophomore belted a two-run home run to give Wesleyan a 2-1 lead.

Hannah Hull turned in another solid performance on the mound, allowing one hit. Hull finishes the season with 40 wins, a Division III record.
