Virginia Beach motorcyclist dies in Hampton crash

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A Virginia Beach man was killed Wednesday afternoon when his motorcycle collided with a Toyota Camry in Hampton. 

Police say the crash happened around 2:38 p.m. at the corner of Victoria Blvd. and Locust Ave. 

Officers found the motorcyclist and the driver of the Camry at the scene. The motorcyclist, 33-year-old Jerry Rodell Gilder, of Virginia Beach, was pronounced dead and the 25-year-old female driver of the Camry was not injured. 

Police say a preliminary investigation revealed the Suzuki motorcycle was heading east on Victoria Boulevard toward Locust Avenue and the Camry was heading west on Victoria when the driver of the Camry attempted a left turn, striking the motorcyclist. 

No charges have been filed at this time but police say the case remains under investigation.
