PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — The phasing out of Virginia Department of Transportation’s Highway Advisement Radio has been moved up one day.
VDOT officials said in a news release Friday that 1680 AM will now be discontinued at 9 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 6. The radio station was originally supposed to be ended on Monday, Jan. 7.
The release said it was moved up after a ramp closure for the I-61/I-264 Interchange Improvements Project was postponed.
The move is happening since a new system VDOT upgraded to doesn’t support the software for the radio broadcast.
VDOT is urging drivers to download the 511 app or the WAZE app for traffic updates.
