VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A North Carolina man is facing several charges after police say he robbed a Wells Fargo in Virginia Beach and then crashed a car.

Virginia Beach police said officers were dispatched around 1:45 p.m. to an armed robbery at a Wells Fargo branch on Independence Boulevard, off Pembroke Avenue.

Police said the suspect fled in a vehicle before crashing in the area of Virginia Beach and Independence boulevards. The suspect, 33-year-old Clevester Antoine Lucas, of Whittaker, North Carolina, was detained after a short foot chase.

He is faced with the following charges: entering a bank while armed, two counts of armed robbery, two counts of use of a firearm in a felon, wearing a mask in public and felony eluding.

Lucas is being held at Virginia Beach Correctional Center without bond.

Another Wells Fargo in the 1000 block of Independence was robbed on Monday, a short time after this incident. The suspect in that case hasn’t been caught.
