NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A man who robbed three banks in Virginia Beach and a credit union in Chesapeake is now facing nine years in prison.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office said Rian Michael Lopez committed the robberies between November 2017 and April 2018.
In each case, Lopez would walk inside brandishing what appeared to be a firearm and demand money. Lopez took a total of $35,000 across the four robberies.
Prosecutors said Lopez’s spree ended after a Virginia Beach police officer spotted him scoping out another bank in a vehicle linked to one of the previous robberies.
Lopez previously served time for a 2010 bank robbery in South Carolina, according to prosecutors.
