NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — More than 300 sailors serving on USS Monterey reunited with their families and friends at Naval Station Norfolk Sunday morning.

The guided-missile cruiser returned after a seven-month deployment in the Middle East and Mediterranean Sea.

It was one of three, Norfolk-based vessels that took part in the missile strikes launched into Syria last month. The ship fired 30 tomahawk missiles from the Red Sea, according to Navy officials.

The Commanding Officer tells 10 On Your Side there’s nothing like sailing into Hampton Roads. “The entire deployment just building one step after another. The crew’s toughness and resiliency is just incredible,” said Captain Dave Stoner.
