Two people displaced after apartment fire in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Two adults have been displaced following an apartment fire in the 1000 block of Holt Avenue early Sunday morning. 

Fire officials were notified just before 5:30 a.m. for the fire. When crews arrived on scene, they saw smoke coming from a two-story apartment with a fire in the kitchen involving the stove and cabinets. The fire was marked under control at 5:42 a.m.  

One person was forced to escape the fire by exiting a second floor window onto a porch roof, and then was assisted to the ground by neighbors. Another person exited the apartment before firefighters arrived on scene. No injuries were reported to the occupants or firefighters. 

The two occupants are being assisted by the Red Cross. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
