Two hurt in early morning Newport News shooting

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Two women were hurt in an early morning shooting in Newport News on Saturday.

Police say it happened around 3 a.m. Saturday in the 900 block of Marcus Drive. A 22-year-old woman and a 19-year-old woman were sitting in a vehicle when they were hit with gunfire. 

Paramedics took both women to the hospital for treatment, but their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Correction: Police initially said one of the victims was 29 years old, not 19.
