Two hospitalized after Newport News apartment fire

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Two people were hospitalized for smoke inhalation after an apartment fire Saturday morning. 

Shortly after 5:30 a.m., Newport News Fire-Rescue crews responded to calls for an apartment fire in the 400 block of Manor Road. Once on scene, flames in the single apartment unit were extinguished quickly. 

After further evaluation, multiple people were treated for smoke inhalation. Two of those victims suffering from extreme smoke inhalation had to be sent to a local hospital for further treatment, according to firefighters. 

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
