NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A Norfolk woman who was escorting her father to his gate at Norfolk International Airport was caught carrying a loaded handgun, officials say.
The Transportation Security Administration said the woman had gotten a “gate pass” from an airline so she could escort her father. When she got to a checkpoint, officials said TSA officers noticed a .38 caliber handgun in her bag.
Officials said the gun was loaded with six bullets, including one in the chamber.
This is the fifteenth time in 2018 TSA officers have detected a gun at one of the checkpoints at ORF. This is the most guns detected at Norfolk’s airport since 16 in 2015.
It far exceeds the 10 guns detected in 2017.
