YORK COUNTY, Va. (WAVY) — A trash truck caught fire in York County Thursday afternoon, prompting a brief road closure.

The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office said in a Facebook post the incident happened near the intersection of Dare Road and U.S. 17. Drivers were rerouted to Constitution Drive while the scene was cleared.

Photos posted by the sheriff’s office showed trash scattered across a few lanes. An hour after the original Facebook post, the sheriff’s office said Dare Road was reopened.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fire.
