The training mine.

SALVO, N.C. (WAVY) — A mine found earlier this week on the beach south of Salvo turned out to be a training mine with no ordnance, according to the National Park Service.

Park service officials said the mine was found Sunday morning south of Salvo, near off-road vehicle ramp 23

Rangers anchored the mine until a U.S. Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal team from Norfolk arrived to safely remove it from the beach around 2 p.m.
