NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A train carrying 137 passengers and a SUV collided in Lanexa on Sunday evening, officials tell 8News.
The New Kent County Sheriff’s Office says it happened near Rockahock Campground just after 6 p.m.
Virginia State Police say a 2001 Chevy Tahoe stopped at a CSX railroad crossing on Outpost Road with the front of the SUV extending over the the tracks.
As the train approached, the driver was unable to put the Tahoe in reverse, according to State Police.
The train hit the front of the vehicle.
Officials tell 8News no one was injured in the crash, and the driver of the SUV was wearing a seatbelt.
No charges are expected.
Virginia State Police are handling the investigation, according to the New Kent County Sheriff’s Office.
Troopers also responded to a small plane crash in New Kent County that seriously injured the pilot.
The cause of that crash is under investigation.
