NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — A crash involving a tractor-trailer on Interstate 64 has lanes of traffic blocked on both sides of the highway.
Virginia State Police said in a news release a tractor-trailer going eastbound struck metal debris in the middle of the roadway around 8:20 a.m., causing the truck’s left tire to blow out.
State police said the tractor-trailer veered to the left, causing a Huyandi SUV to run off the road and hit a gaurdrail head-on. The driver of the Huyandi was not injured in the crash.
The tractor-trailer continued veering into oncoming westbound traffic, but state police said the driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle and brought it to a stop in the grassy median.
Two lanes were closed on each aside following the crash, according to VDOT. Traffic cameras near the scene showed motorists moving by the scene as emergency responders worked to clear the crash.
The Newport News Fire Department responded to the scene to clean up diesel fuel that spill as a result of the crash.
No one was injured in the crash and charges will be filed, state police said.
