EDENTON, N.C (WAVY) — The Town of Edenton has appointed a new police chief.

Edenton Town Manager Anne Marie Knighton announced Friday that Henry King Jr. is taking over this role.

“I believe Henry will be a terrific fit for the Edenton Police Department,” Knighton said. “His enthusiasm and dedication to helping people is one of the attributes that impressed me during our meetings.”

King is a 17-year veteran of the Rocky Mount Police Department. He currently serves as Captain in the department and is the Commander of the Criminal Investigations Division.  He manages investigations of both major and property crimes in that role.

“I look forward to working with Mayor Vaughan, the Town Council and to getting to know the citizens of Edenton,” said King.

King will take over for Daroyll Brown, who has been serving as interim police chief since January, following former Chief Jay Fortenbery’s retirement in December.

The appointment is effective May 7.
