NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — The Norfolk Tides will remain an affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.
The two teams announced Wednesday they have agreed to a player development contract that will run through the 2020 season.
The Tides have been the AAA affiliate of Baltimore since the 2007 season. In that span, 196 players have suited up for both clubs — including 22 this season.
“Extending our relationship with the Baltimore Orioles was a no-brainer” Tides President Ken Young said in a statement. “Our partnership with Baltimore has been successful not only on the field of play, but in the Hampton Roads community as well. We’re thrilled to continue to be the top affiliate of such an outstanding organization.”
This season has been a rather competitive one for the Tides, as the team went into the All Star break with a 46-41 record. The Tides kickoff the second half of the season tonight with a four-game homestand against the Gwinnett Stripers.
