FRISCO, N.C. (WITN) — Three fishermen were injured after their boat overturned off of Frisco early Monday morning.

The Coast Guard and Hatteras Island Rescue Squad were notified that a shrimp trawler overturned near Cape Point around 5:20 a.m.

The boat was found broken apart about a half mile north of the Cape Hatteras National Seashore off-road vehicle ramp 49 near Frisco.

All three people on board were taken to the hospital for medical evaluations.

The cause of the accident is unknown at this time.

The beach is currently closed between ramps 48 and 49 due to debris, like nails, wood and other potentially hazardous items, that washed ashore in the accident.
