SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — A man who complained about the service at a Suffolk restaurant was caught on surveillance video stealing money.
The man grabbed money from the front counter of Plaza Azteca restaurant in Suffolk on Sunday.
Rodrigo Ochoa, one of the restaurant’s managers, said it was about $40 or $50 from a server’s tips.
“They count on that money to pay rent,” Ochoa said.
It’s unclear whether the man recognized he was being watched, or not. Images from the surveillance video show him looking right into the camera.
“It’s pretty obvious that we have it,” Ochoa said.
He came in with five or six other people, and complained about his meal.
“He asked to see the manager while he stepped up to the counter. He was supposed to wait for the manager to come to speak with him,” Ochoa said.
But he had other ideas when it came to customer satisfaction.
The employees say that people have already recognized this man and have told Plaza Azteca through social media.
“It’s unbelievable what some people do for just a few dollars,” Ochoa said.
The man didn’t even run out once he snatched the money, so employees weren’t aware until later that the money was gone.
A spokesman for the city of Suffolk told us Friday afternoon that there was no new information on a suspect, and the theft remains under investigation.
