‘There was fish out here’: VB neighbors’ frequent flooding issues highlighted by storm

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — For many who live down and around Wandsworth Drive, this sight is nothing new.

“The reason we’re all tripping out is because this is only an hours-worth of rain. Can you imagine what we go through?” said neighbor Dana Teti.

But for new neighbors like Andy Adams, he didn’t know just how bad this area floods

“It’s terrible, I’m stuck in my house now,” said neighbor Andy Adams.

Neighbors say Thursday’s rain started turning their streets into a pond — literally

“There was fish out here. I actually just caught one for one of the girls down there, she wanted to see one,” said neighbor Frank Munson.

And while homes haven’t been flooded just yet, neighbors’ cars weren’t as lucky.

“That’s my neighbor’s car and there’s water up to the floorboard in his car,” said Adams.

The city did come out with a truck later on this afternoon, but the water still stayed on the road.

“It’s something to do with the pump station,” Adams said. “Talking to the neighbors I’m not sure what’s going on, but it’s something to do with the pump station.”

10 On Your Side spoke with the city about what is being done to help areas like these that are constantly flooding.

“All we can tell them is yes were aware of it, were looking at it, it’s just not going to be an overnight fix,” said Drew Lankford with the city of Virginia Beach.

Neighbors say a fix can’t come soon enough.
