Team from Sentara heads out to assist Florence victims in N.C.

News

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — A support team from Sentara Healthcare is heading down to Kinston, North Carolina to help staff a mobile, field hospital for Hurricane Florence relief efforts.

The team of 21 ER physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, radiology, pharmacy techs and EMTs will split into two teams and work 12-hour shifts day and night and return to Hampton Roads on Thursday.

Officials say they’ll be sleeping in a school near the field hospital, set up by the North Carolina Department of Emergency Management (NCDEM).

The group is responding to a request from the NCDEM to relieve exhausted hospital teams in their community.
