NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Police and fire crews were called to an upper classmen dorm on the east campus of Christopher Newport University Monday for the report of a suspicious substance.

In addition to CNU police, Virginia State Police and the Newport News Fire Department also responded to Christopher Newport Crossing late Monday morning to investigate the substance and remained there for hours.

According to CNU spokesman Jim Hanchett, there were no injuries reported and he said there is no ongoing safety threat. Classes continued as normal throughout the day.
