Suspect surrenders peacefully after Portsmouth barricade situation

BREAKING UPDATE: WAVY’s Laura Caso reports the subject of a barricade situation in Portsmouth has surrendered peacefully to law enforcement. 10 On Your Side has confirmed the suspect is 43-year-old John M. Newby, who was wanted for allegedly assaulting two women.

PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Officers are on the scene of a barricade situation in Portsmouth, a police spokesperson has confirmed.

Police responded to the 2800 block of Bayview Boulevard Wednesday morning, which is near the Bruce Johnson Memorial Park.

It’s unconfirmed whether the barricade situation is related to the search for John M. Newby, who is wanted for allegedly assaulting two women on Tuesday.

The location police responded to on Wednesday is the same spot where the alleged assaults occured.
