SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A man has been charged with animal cruelty in Suffolk.

Emergency communications received a call in September, 2017 for a welfare check for a residence in the 100 block of Greenfield Crescent for a brown and white female pitbull that was left outside with no food or water.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the dog was found to be severely weak and had inadequate shelter in a feces covered crate with no food or water.

The dog was seized and taken to a local veterinarians office for treatment due to it’s severe condition and eminent danger. During this time, animal control was unable to locate the owner.

Following the investigation and locating the owner, 29-year-old Brian Phil Jones, of Suffolk, was arrested on August 9 and charged with three counts of animal cruelty, and two counts of fail to care for animals.
